First year teacher workshop/Nouns powerpoint

I was able to attend a great workshop for first year teachers this weekend and the speaker provided us with a great online binder that everyone should check out!
I provided the link HERE

or copy and paste the link below into your browser

I also used this great singular/plural power point. Found here. I did not create it however the only way to link it was to save it to my Google docs. It was created by the Lexington School District. They have some great resouces!

Hope everyone survived their Monday. I don't drink soda but today I was about to crash and burn... This little guy came to the rescue

Gross? duh. But I'm in survival mode today. Now home to grade a stack of papers..

Teaching mental math= my death and the death of many others/vocab drawing worksheet

I was unaware that teaching mental math would give several of my students mental breakdowns.

I taught it by providing students with a hundreds chart and locating the larger number (of the two they were adding on the chart) So lets say we have 67+23. Put your finger on the 67 and then count by tens to add the next number. So add 20 to get 87 then add on your extra ones (3) to get to 90!
Here is the link to the hundreds chart we used:) We glued these into our math notebooks to use in the future.

Here is the worksheet we used for practice
Some of my kids just don't get this. Others thought it was a joke. Very frustrating.. grrrr

Does anyone else have any other ideas??

Here is a worksheet I created today to help us remember the definitions of each of them. Enjoy!

Money worksheet freebie

Some of my students really struggled with realizing the concept that if you had something that cost $.16 you have to add another nickel for the extra penny if you were using only one type of coin. Here is a worksheet I used for students to practice:) Happy counting!

I also bought 5 Skippyjon Jones
books this week. I am seriously in love with Skinnyjon and can't wait to buy the several I'm missing! If you have never read them you need to pick them up in the November Scholastic Book Order.

I also ran into this great new centers blog! Take a look at it when you have free time:)

Have a great Tuesday!

a few laughs and fall hallway decor!

Saw this online ^

A child in my room turned this in last week. Guess shirt might need to be a spelling word..

I walked past the kindergarten classroom yesterday and was AMAZED to see how much creativity can come out of a 5 year old. Are these not the most precious things you have ever seen? How fun!!

Precious??

Anyone else watch the game last night?

I'm rooting for the Cardinals... because I'm from Missouri;) Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday at work! We had the day off:)

Editing checklist and simple money game

We all know how hard it is to teach a child to write. It is like pulling teeth. My students struggle with realizing what is missing from their writing. I found this great editing checklist online that can be modified for each writing assignment! It is uploaded into my google docs. Not sure who created it. Enjoy:)

You can find it HERE

is how old I turn on Monday! We have a half day today due to parent teacher conferences and we are also out again tomorrow. What a great present for me!

I uploaded a really simple money game also. I printed mine out and laminated them to use in the future. Basically you group up 2/3 students and roll a die. Each number on a die is worth a certain coin. The first one to a dollar wins! You can modify this to $2 or even $3. Gets kids counting. They have fun with it! (We did this in my student teaching also!) You can find that HERE. Sorry they aren't very pretty. My pretty fonts are on my MAC and my PC is j.u.n.k.

I'm getting old. Also on another note. I have worked 35 hours this week and its only Thursday. Plus my janitor told me I get to work too early and that I need a "friend". Referring to a boyfriend. Gee thanks lady

Here is where I found it

Also on another note-- one of my lovely boys brought a pocket knife to school today. His fate is undetermined. (This would happen in my room)
