Teaching With Class... A new blog design and birthday hat winners!

I'm elated to finally introduce my new blog design. I was looking for something more grown up that I wouldn't get tired of in the next couple years. I worked with Aubrey at Kinch Designs and I'm so happy with the outcome. Check her out if you are looking for a sassy blog design. She is so worth it. I'm also keeping I decided I didn't want to lose all my pins and it would just be a hassle to move all these so pins and bookmarks won't change.
I messaged the two winners of the birthday hats via the wrong facebook account. Blonde moment here, the computer was logged in under the boyfriend's name. Soooo they may be hearing from me via e-mail. Anywho. Congrats to Ann Raye-Whittiker and Pina Disav! Headed to work do get this classroom in order. It is pretty ugly in there. Happy Tuesday!

Happy 2nd Birthday & 500 follower Giveaway!

I'm so excited to celebrate's 2nd birthday. I really feel like I've come a long way! Plus I've reached 500 followers which is also a reason to celebrate. I'm working on getting a new blog design &&& a new BLOG NAME (surprise!! Same address though, will remain FYI) I  was hoping it would be done for this giveaway but it is still a work in progress so that reveal will come at a later date!

Last year I said I wanted to get my TPT store up and running which I did and it is becoming a success! I wanted to get a donation from Donor's Choose and I did! I actually got two- My kidney table and an iPad mini--that I will be getting this fall! I still have to find that time to run another half marathon, and I promise myself I will attempt to be the best teacher I possibly can be! I'm excited to see where it takes me.

In honor of my blog's 2nd birthday I'm giving away not 1 but 2 lucky readers a birthday hat for their classroom!
Our class birthday hat has been a huge hit since day 1 and the kids loved it. I don't think my 5th graders this fall will appreicate it near as much as the 3rd graders did--but we will see.

You must follow through blog lovin' in order to win! So follow me and sign up! This Giveaway is open until the 26th... Don't wait:) Goodluck!

Mountain Math Strikes again!

The wonderful people of Mountain Math approached me a couple weeks ago offering me a new tool for my fifth grade classroom and I jumped for joy at the opportunity. If you didn't read my post before on Mountain Math take 15 minutes of your day and read it HERE. I love love love and adore Mountain Math and I'm so disapointed that I won't be using it (this year) in my 5th grade classroom. I will have to earn my keep before I can start changing the rules of the roost unforutnately. BUT Mountain Math and their lovely staff sent me their "Dare to Compare" center that I couldn't wait to get my hands on. It arrived today and it is going to be a wonderful tool for review I already know it.

Dare to Compare Center:

The Dare to Compare Center is designed to challenge students and demonstrate relationships between fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Center Includes:
  • 34 page color flip chart
  • 3 flaps on each page allow for thousands of combinations
  • Instructions
  • Black line master of student response sheet
  • Measures 19 inches wide and 13 inches high
Pretty neat eh??

If you are looking for a bell ringer or something to do with students who finish work early I highly suggest it. Let me know if you have any questions! I would also love to know if you are already using Mountain Math products!

Made It Monday Rainbow tissue paper puff (with tutorial)

( I wrote this on Monday but didn't finish it until today and I know the tutorials for these are common..but hey-I've never seen a rainbow one before:)
So today I caught a working bug and headed to my classroom to get some organization done. Although I did promise my principal I wouldn't work during July it is hard when you are excited to get in your new room (even if it is half the size as your old one).
So for my niece's babyshower last week I made some tissue paper puffs fluffs whatever ya wanna call 'em. While cleaning out my new room today I found a pack of "bleeding art tissue" paper. That means 20 pieces of tissue in 20 different colors. Pretty fun rightttt?
And about 10 minutes later (if that) I ended up with this:
Lovin' all the bright colors in one package...
So first you lay 10-12 sheets out flat. I did 12 but next time I am only going to use 10.
Then you start to fold up like a fan, back and forth back and forth

One you have it completely folded back and forth you have to wrap a pipe cleaner around the middle to put it into halves.. You will see how it works in the pictures below but I didn't take a picture of this step. Sorry!
Next cut the edges into a "round" shape
Should look something like this but probably nicer. I'm not a perfectionist on folding my paper accordian style and it doesn't have to be perfect
See how the pipe cleaner is in the middle? Now for the puffing part.
Hold it up right and pull down one layer at a time. Can't mess it up really.
I did one on one side then one on the other
Should look like this when you are done with the first half. Flip it over and do the other side!
Then fix them however which way you would like them so there are no big spaces inbetween layers and you are finished! I love love love the rainbow colors. I can't wait to hang them up!
I don't think the picture really does justice of how pretty they are. The colors are so vibrant.
You can see what brand of tissue paper I used HERE!
 Only a few days late:)
Have a wonderful forth! I'm off for a run then a shellac manicure before a BBQ tonight! w00t w00t!
